About the activity
Treasure Hunt in Lisbon
Lisbon was made for exploring on foot. Its seven hills, winding alleys and hidden viewpoints reveal something new around every corner, from the Moorish lanes of Alfama to the grand squares of Baixa, rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1755. In this treasure hunt, teams race through the historic centre solving riddles, cracking codes and completing creative challenges inspired by the city’s history, culture and everyday life. The result is an afternoon in Lisbon that becomes a playful competition full of discovery.
Guided by a digital game app or a traditional road book, each team follows its own route through Baixa, Chiado and Alfama, collecting points at landmarks such as Praça do Comércio, the Santa Justa Lift and the miradouros overlooking the Tagus. Challenges range from photo and video missions to tasting a pastel de nata or asking locals for a clue in Portuguese. The format adapts to any group, from a relaxed walking discovery to a fast-paced competition, and can also be done by tuk-tuk to cover more ground without climbing every hill on foot.
Why Choose the Treasure Hunt for Your Team
See Lisbon Through Its Stories
Rather than following a guide, teams discover the city for themselves. Clues tied to fado, the famous yellow trams, azulejos and the 1755 earthquake give international teams a real feel for Lisbon, while leading them into corners most visitors never see.
Strategy, Communication and Friendly Competition
Splitting tasks, reading the map and deciding which challenges to prioritize: the hunt rewards teams that communicate well and play to each person’s strengths. It mixes departments naturally, gets everyone moving and ends with a shared finale where the winners and best photos are revealed.
Practical Details
Ideal Group Size
The activity works well for groups of 10 to 300 people, split into teams of 5 to 8 participants. Each team follows its own route to avoid crowding at checkpoints, and larger groups can start from different points before meeting at a shared finish line.
What’s Included
The activity includes the following:
- a designed route with personalised clues
- a game app or printed roadbook for each team
- local game masters at key checkpoints
- all challenge materials
- a welcome briefing and a final prize ceremony
It can be customised with company branding or messages linked to your retreat goals. It can also be combined with a tuk-tuk circuit, a food-tasting stop or a sunset drink at a miradouro to close the day.
Requirements
No prior experience is required. For the app version, each team needs one smartphone with mobile data. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as Lisbon’s streets are steep and cobbled. The activity is suitable for all ages, and routes can be adapted for groups with limited mobility. It typically lasts 2 to 3 hours and runs year-round, with covered alternatives available in case of rain.
